Ohhh didn't get home until late, when I got home I got distracted...had to raise a ticket with one of my email providers...pop3 and smtp has been failing authentication since yesterday lunchtime.
I eventually kicked myself into action and was in two minds whether to go out or not, then as I contemplated it I realised if I didn't go out I would just sit on my arse and do nothing!
I changed into cycling gear...I used the new cycling trousers wifey picked up from Aldi and headed out on the Lacock cycle-way only a 9 mile route but again actually quite hard work due to the terrain!
As I was tearing through the track on my way back I came to the realisation that I was going faster than I could actually see.....damn cycling with poor lights is pants!
Hopefully my wiggle replacement will turn up soon...
I was contemplating making my own lights, making a water bottle battery cell seemed easy enough, and powering a couple of low voltage Halogen's was equally a good idea, but how to mount the Halogens and water proofing it all seemed to much like hard work! I stumbled across Electron EHP315 Twin 5w-10W from Chain Reaction...And ordered a set on Friday...It has arrived today and seems to be really good quality, I am currently charging up the battery, I am going to give it a try tomorrow night.
Tonight's cycle ride was 9.05 miles in 39 minutes with an average speed of13.9 mph (Damn all those gates!) the gps track can be found here...
Time to get back on the bike.

Some of these older halogen / Nicad light sets are now great value for money now that the LED/Lithium lights have become the norm.
A good 5+10w combo will emit more useable light than a lot of the smaller LED lights out there.
Just remember that the run times quoted will be rather optamistic.
If you fancy a DIY stupid bright light then you could do worse than search on ebay for the seller jabilcyclist for a really good halogen head unit. Your blog doesn't let me paste a link :(
Red...Used the lights tonight, with the LED and the Halogens its a perfect mix, good bright direct beam with the Halogens providing peripheral illumination.
Rafe...I opted for buying of the shelf, seemed like a better choice in the end...and actually cheaper!
Fair enough. If, when we meet, it gets dark, I'll show you my 50W over-volted halogen ;) That thing is lunatic!
BTW which cateye is it? Thinking of something with long battery life as emergency backup or when I just want to be seen or for when there are lots of oncoming drivers. My DIY might make daylight but the battery life sucks and blinds anyone on-coming.
Have a cateye rear light that I've had for years and it's great. Bought a couple of cheap front & rear lights and all have broken. As they say, buy cheap buy twice but actually I need to buy a third time so am looking at cateye.
